Q&A: My First Trimester In Review

Whoo! One trimester down with baby number two. Time has flown by with this pregnancy as we enjoy the warmer months with our two-year-old. As I’m entering week number 15, I’ve been reflecting on the first trimester with a new appreciation for the amazing things my body has accomplished and reverence for mothers everywhere.

As part of this reflection, I asked my Instagram community what questions they had - here’s what they asked.

Trimester one q&a

What differences have you noticed between your first and second pregnancy?

I’m unsure if it is because I knew what to expect this time, or if I’m just a little more seasoned at this, but I swear this pregnancy has been easier for me. My physical symptoms in my first trimester with Beau and this baby were nearly the same; slight nausea (weeks 7-11), fatigue, and food aversions. This time I feel like I have a better handle on it.

One thing that’s definitely worse this time is I had bouts of dizziness and I’m DEFINITELY showing earlier.

Any cravings?

It’s funny. My main aversion right now is meat. All meat. Therefore many of my cravings are for carbs, dairy and sometimes sweets. I’ve been loving all the pasta, Mexican food (hello cheese) and the occasional ice cream. The blessing (and the curse) is that I only need a few bites of whatever I’m craving before I’ve had enough.

When do you start feeling the baby?

With Beau, I swear I felt him as early as 16 weeks. At week 15 they say you can’t really feel the baby move. I’m SO looking forward to feeling him. That was one of my favorite parts of my last pregnancy. It felt like the true beginning of my connection with him.

We saw on our first ultrasound that this baby is definitely a wiggler, so I’m eager to notice those first few flutters.

Any names yet?

Haha, this has to be our most frequently asked question. Chris and I had 100 percent landed on a girl's name but we never had a second boy’s name picked out. I’ll be honest, I’m not in love with anything we’ve come up with and Beau was nameless for a good 6-7 hours after birth.

The ones I gravitate towards are Southern surnames. Mostly one syllable. Chris loves classic names and ones that reflect his German heritage.

Pray for us lol.

What are you looking forward to the most about having two?

I’m so excited for Beau to have a brother. He is content with being an only right now, but I know the bond between these two will be so fun to watch as they grow up together. With just under three years between them, I know we’ll have our hands full, but our hearts will be, too.

What are you not looking forward to?

I remember when Beau was born it was a huge shock to the system. Between the night wakings and the constant obligation of breastfeeding, I was totally unprepared. I’m a little nervous about how we’re going to manage all of that again… but with a toddler.

What’s the best part about pregnancy thus far?

Although I have some of the typical symptoms, my body handles pregnancy well. I feel the support of our families and love having something to look forward to all the time.

With trimester I in the books, I feel like I’m finally enjoying the honeymoon phase of trimester II. I’ll never stop feeling grateful for this experience.

XO,

Meg
